Radiation Protection Program

(RPP)

A written document addressing both federal and state compliance requirements. The RPP is a mandatory document that must be reviewed annually by the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO).
Its purpose is to help your company become compliant and, once implemented, keep it compliant.


Topics covered in the RPP include:

  • ALARA program for minimizing exposure

  • Dosimetry requirements

  • Pregnant females in the workplace

  • Radiation surveys

  • Record keeping and posting requirements

Radiation Safety Officer Training

(RSO)

A four-hour, real-time, instructor-led Zoom class that provides attendees with a clear understanding of compliance requirements and personnel safety.

Key Notes:

  • Recommended to have several attendees — cost is based on class delivery, not the number of participants.

  • Multiple individuals can be RSO-certified, but only one acting RSO is permitted per facility at a time.

  2. ALARA principles

  3. Responsibilities of the Radiation Safety Officer

  4. Cabinet X-Ray Regulations (FDA 21 CFR 1020.40)

  5. Registration Requirements for Cabinet X-Ray Systems

  6. Standards for Protection Against Radiation (10 CFR 20 or State Equivalent)

  7. Surveys and Survey Instruments

  8. Training Requirements (10 CFR 835)

  9. Posting Requirements

  10. RSO Action Items

Radiation Safety Training

For anyone needing access to the vicinity of X-ray machines, typically conducted annually. Ideal attendees include maintenance staff, quality personnel, and operators of X-ray equipment.

Training topics include:

  1. Risks of exposure to radiation

  2. Basic radiological fundamentals

  3. ALARA controls (design features, administrative controls, limits, policies, and procedures)

  4. Individual rights and responsibilities

  5. Individual exposure limits and reports

  6. Time, distance, and shielding principles

Laser Safety Training

Covers the training requirements of ANSI Z136.1, focusing on engineering, administrative, and personal protective laser safety controls. Also addresses biological effects and accident prevention.

 

Topics include:

  • Biological effects of laser radiation

  • Common causes of laser accidents

  • Non-beam hazards

  • Human behavioral factors in laser safety
